Beautiful Resorts in Phuket
As one of Thailand's most popular beach destinations, Phuket is filled with resorts that cater to all styles and budgets of travelers, from families to couples looking for romance. Phuket is also Thailand's largest island, and most people tend to choose a resort area and not wander too far from it. The island, which is about Singapore's size, connects to the mainland by two vehicle bridges.
Many of the top resorts are located on the island's west coast, around beaches. Here, tourists will find a range of accommodation, dining, and activity options, from snorkeling and diving trips to jet skiing. Of these beaches, Patong is the epicenter of all the entertainment action, and the busiest beach. To escape the crowds, you'll want to try the beaches to the south, like Karon and Kata, or to the north, like Kamala, Surin, and Bang Tao.

The Surin Phuket
On Phuket's west coast, The Surin Phuket is a five-star, design-forward resort on secluded and gorgeous Pansea Beach, walking distance from the more popular Surin Beach. This elegant property consists of just over a hundred cottages and suites that are built into the hillside and tumble down to the beach. The design is such that they're meant to blend directly into the natural environment – and do so remarkably well.
The interior decor is luxe and modern Thai in style, with white walls and marble floors. Amenities include a few restaurants (more dining options are within walking distance), a spa, tennis court, and water-sports center with free kayaks and stand up paddleboards for guests to use.
The Trisara
Couples looking for an all out romantic vacation will want to take a look at the gorgeous, luxe Trisara Phuket, located about 45 minutes north by vehicle from Patong. This five-star luxury accommodation is in temple-looking villas set discreetly apart from each other on a secluded stretch of white-sand beach.
The property isn't cheap, but for honeymoons or other major events, it is well worth the splurge. The food is fresh and delicious and make sure to not skip the spa, which offers a signature six-hand massage.
JW Marriott Resort & Spa
Book a one- or two-bedroom suite at the posh JW Marriott Resort & Spa on Mai Khao Beach on Phuket's far northern tip, and you'll be able to relax in your own private plunge pool or hot tub. Even if you don't go with a suite, the regular rooms here are quite lovely, with stylish wood paneling and warm color schemes. Beds have pillow-top mattresses, and all rooms have furnished balconies or terraces, usually with some type of ocean view.
The property is located less than a 20-minute drive from the Phuket International Airport, and should you not want to leave, its grounds offer plenty of diversity when it comes to dining, with 11 different restaurants to choose from. There is also a private beach, a spa with Thai massages, a cooking school, and a Japanese dinner theater to keep you entertained.
The Chava Resort
Families love The Chava Resort for its spacious and modern apartment-style accommodation. These come sized between two and five bedrooms and feature kitchens and even private plunge swimming pools in some. This affordable luxe property also has a solid location less than a 10-minute walk from vibrant Surin Beach, which features plenty of dining and shopping options.
On-site amenities and offerings include a complimentary breakfast, swimming pool, hot tub, and a laid-back restaurant serving lunch and dinner. Thai massage can be arranged by the pool or in your room. And if parents need a night out, babysitting can be arranged with advance notice.
Andara Resort and Villas
Another wonderful resort for families is Andara Resort and Villas, located about 15 minutes north of Patong just off beautiful Kamala Beach. The property sits on a hill fronting the Andaman Sea and features a range of suites and villas in varying sizes.
Couples will like the suites, which come with private plunge pools and modern Thai-style decor. While families will dig the three- to six-bedroom villas, which come with an in-house private chef. On-site amenities also include a kids' club, spa, and cooking classes. Note that Andara is not directly on the beach, but just a few minutes' walk from it.
SAii Laguna Phuket
The SAii Laguna Beach Resort Complex is a gated community consisting of a few different hotels with shared amenities, including more than 30 restaurants, multiple swimming pools, a private stretch of white-sand beach, day spas, and even an 18-hole golf course.
The complex is about 30 minutes' drive north of Patong at Bang Tao and is designed as a destination experience. The Outrigger is more affordable than some of the properties in the complex, but still features a luxe vibe and a range of rooms that are clean, comfortable, and oversized. They are done up in modern Thai style with pops of bold color, tile floors, and sunken bathtubs.
Amari Phuket
If you want to be close to Patong Beach check out the Amari Phuket, which offers affordable luxury and has a romantic vibe for couples. The rooms and suites here are contemporary in decor and let in lots of light thanks to big windows. They also come with furnished terraces, often with ocean views.
The hotel consists of multiple wings built into the hillside above the beach, and the property is quite large, so depending on where your accommodation is located, walking between it and the on-site restaurants, swimming pools, or beach area can be tedious. If that's the case, golf buggies are on offer to transport you around.
When it comes to dining there are a few options, including La Gritta, which serves heaping portions of quite good Italian, and Rim Talay, which offers international fare including a buffet.
Renaissance Resort & Spa
Set on Mai Khao Beach on Phuket's far northern tip, Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa is a romantic resort, which is also convenient to the Phuket International Airport (it's just 10 minutes by car). This luxury property offers a range of rooms and suites, which are all comfortable and have a stylish modern Asian look.
If you're celebrating a special romantic occasion, you'll want to book one of the villas that come with private plunge pools. On-site amenities include three restaurants and a spa.
Centara Grand Beach Resort
Set in a quiet, secluded corner of Karon Beach, the Centara Grand Phuket Resort is one of the best destination hotels in Thailand.
The hotel villas feature a small private pool, an en-suite bathroom, and an outdoor terrace for private meals. Aside from three restaurants on-site, the resort also offers a tennis court; a state-of-the-art fitness center with views of the ocean; and a spa offering all forms of pampering, from massage to a sauna.
When it comes to keeping guests entertained, the Centara is hard to beat. The resort has a landscaped water park built right into its gardens. Here, guests young and old can enjoy four pools, a lazy river, waterfalls and waterslides, and a children's pool with a slide reserved for the youngest guests.
The hotel also offers two kids' clubs: Camp Safari for kids under nine and E-Zone for older children. The clubs offer a number of activities, including drawing and painting, games, arts and crafts, a TV with special kid-friendly programming, and an outdoor play zone. Teenagers and older kids can join their parents in kayaking, windsurfing, or snorkeling adventures – all the necessary equipment is available directly from the hotel.
Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas
In a stunning setting on Mai Khao Beach and backed by the lush jungle of Sirinath National Park, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is one of the top resorts on the island. The luxury resort offers accommodation in 91 thatched-roof villas that each come with a private swimming pool. The 5-star property has a romantic and intimate atmosphere throughout. The villas blend indoor and outdoor spaces beautifully and boast contemporary Thai design.
Although the resort attracts a lot of honeymooning couples, it is also suitable for families, with amenities like kid-friendly meals, a children's playground, and babysitting (for an extra fee).
